Hair feel fried, dried, and frizzed to the side? Locks so lackin in shine you wonderin where all that $30 product and water you poured into it went? Sounds like you might be workin with high porosity hair. In today’s blog post Glimmer 411 will help you reconnect with your curls so they can be as lush and vibrant as they’re meant to be!

So what exactly does it mean to have high porosity hair?

In essence, if your hair is high porosity then it has loosely bound hair cuticles that take in or release moisture easily. This looseness is caused by gaps in the cuticle layer of your hair strands due to a natural lack in protein.

Porosity is your hair’s way of telling you how it likes to be moisturized. For high porosity hair this means incorporating regular protein treatments & lavishing your curls with thick creams. Make sure you work with your hair by giving it the care it wants so it’ll give you the results you’ll love!

Do

  • Moisturize & Seal with the LOC method daily or every other day by showering your curls in a Liquid that’s water or water based, using Oil to seal in that moisture, and running through it with a Cream to make sure all of that moisture is retained.

    • Benefit = provides your hair with the moisture it’s dying for in the most effective way imaginable.

  • Prepoo weekly or biweekly by giving your hair an oil treatment before you get to washing it.

    • Benefit = protects your curls from the dryness that often follows a good shampooing session.

  • Finger Detangle your hair gently & patiently before or after washing it.

    • Benefit = reduces excessive shedding while promoting the productive hair growth we all love.

Don’t

  • Chemically treat with bleach, dye, or texturizers more than once every 2-3 months at most.

    • Benefit = cutting back on chemical treatments prevents excessive shedding, dryness, and breakage.

  • Expose your hair to heat from flatirons, hot combs, or diffusers more than once a month.

    • Benefit = avoiding high temperature styling protects your hair from moisture loss and overall heat damage.

  • Forget those weekly/biweekly deep conditions & protein treatments.

    • Benefit = consistent deep conditioning & protein treatments nourishes your cuticles while giving them the strength they need to retain that much needed moisture.
