Making Magic with Moto

“The thing I love most about what I do is that I get to bring [people’s] visions to life.”

- Motolani Osinowo

Hailing from  Lagos, Nigeria Motolani “Moto” Osinowo is Glimmer 411®’s Director of Content and Communications, and the younger sister of our Founder and CEO, Mayowa Osinowo.

Moto graduated from Babson College with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration just a week ago, and is getting ready to start a career in consulting. But despite the steps she is taking towards launching her corporate career, at her core Moto is very much a creative.

Since quarantine started, Moto reconnected with her love for painting, a passion she first picked up in her senior year of highschool.

“I’m all about aesthetics and it goes beyond creating Glimmer 411®’s branding. I’ve had friends ask me to style them for events and I even created the interior design for Mayowa’s apartment,” Moto says, “The thing I love most about what I do is that I get to bring their visions to life. ”

Her creativity is definitely one of Moto’s most powerful tools, and she’s been using it to help Glimmer 411® since her sister reached out to her during our company’s inception.

“Mayo and I are only a little over a year apart so she’s more than just my sister, she’s also one of my best friends,” Moto says, “Building a company with her has definitely been really interesting. I used to only see the goofy relaxed Mayo, but thanks to Glimmer 411® I’ve gotten to see her work ethic and her leadership — it’s honestly been super inspiring.”

After finishing primary school in Lagos, both sisters went to a Swiss boarding school for their junior high and high school years. Boarding school was where Moto’s world began to open up.

“When I first went to boarding school I was a super picky eater, couldn’t care less about fashion, and didn’t know too much about art. But boarding school changed all of that. I connected with some of my greatest passions and learned how to ski on top of that,” Moto laughs.

There’s no doubt that boarding school gave Moto some of her defining experiences. Among them were more challenging times that Moto thinks also contributed to her personal growth.

“It wasn’t easy being one of the ten or fifteen black kids out of 400 students,” Moto says, “There were things I had to bottle up because of cultural differences, and my hair suffered a lot. But I will say all of that made me a lot more independent and gave me a thicker skin. So in a way, I’m kind of grateful for all the bad things too.”

In the not so distant future Moto plans to turn her creativity into a career by either launching a fashion line of her own or working with an established brand. For now she’s taking entrepreneurship slow and steady, hoping to win the race by spending her time now cultivating connections that can help her when she’s ready to move beyond corporate America.

“There’s this notion that people in the creative field don’t make as much money or they’re not as successful and I want to break that narrative because it’s simply not true. I’m going to make it big with art and design. And when I do, I hope it’ll help other creatives realize what they’re really worth too.”
